Coach Gregg Popovich and the San Antonio Spurs entered Oakland, California with one plan in mind: to win.

Led by Point Guard Tony Parker, the Spurs earned a decisive victory (113-100) over the Golden State Warriors, a team that has had a strong start this season.

Parker scored 28 points and seven assists. Another player that contributed to the team was Small Forward Kawhi Leonard. He scored 19 points and had a great showing as the game progressed.

“I was really impressed by Leonard’s hustle and play of basketball. He had a very slow start to the season [but] he really has been picking up as of late,” Sophomore Mike Hua said.

One player on the Warriors that has been making a huge impact is the Shooting Guard Klay Thompson.

Ever since his contract extension, Thompson has been on a tear and this game was no different. Even in a loss, he looked dominant by notching 29 points, carrying his team.

This loss moves Golden State to a 5-2 record. They have lost two straight games ever since their five game winning streak at the beginning of the season.

“I prefer watching the Western Conference because of matchups like the Spurs and the Warriors. Both teams are playoff favorites, and it’s fun watching them outdo each other,” senior Xavier Angulo said.

Both teams still have several games and future challenges ahead of them. This is the first encounter between both teams this season, and it won’t be the last.  Their next encounter is on Friday February 20th.
